HOW CAN THEY PUT A COST ON A CHILDS LIFE?
Alex at Twycross Zoo almost 4 years after his emergency 9 hour heart operation
THE LEEDS GENERAL INFIRMARY WHERE ALEX HAD HIS OPERATION IS UNDER THREAT OF CLOSURE. IT COULD BE ONE OF MANY SPECIALIST CENTRES CLOSED IN NEW GOVERNMENT CUTBACKS. THEY WANT TO CENTRALISE SUCH SPECIAL CARE UNITS TO CERTAIN AREAS OF THE COUNTRY. TRANSPORTING THESE CHILDREN WITH CONDITIONS LIKE ALEX’S IS RISKY AND COULD LEAD TO A HIGHER DEATH RATE. I KNOW THE RISKS OF MOVING THESE CHILDREN IN SUCH A CRITICAL CONDITION, WE SHOULD BE EXPANDING AND HAVING MORE SPECIALISED CENTRES NOT MAKING CUT BACKS THAT WILL ENDANGER THE LIVES OF OUR CHILDREN WHEN THEY ARE MOST VUNERABLE.
“The heart surgery for children that is currently been carried out at Leeds is under threat from been closed down and as a result all surgery will be moved to 100’s of miles away outside the area to possibly Newcastle, Birmingham or even London. The impact on thousands of families will be enormous!
Should this happen families will not have the support from friends and family, it will lead to more expense too, and most of all it is not fair on having to travel a child who has recently had major surgery in a car for several hours !!
Going to a new hospital in a distant city will be scary you as you will not know the staff there at all, whereas at leeds it has a personal touch, the surgeons, consultants and nurses are fantastic they check on you all the time and you build a up a good relationship with them, therefore you have a lot more trust in them which in stressful time is one less worry.”
Please join and help support our petition, unfortunateley Parents, you never know when you may need this hospital!
